you want me to live where?

In all honesty I believe that I could live in a cabin or a shack for just a few days.  I have become so dependent on technology that I feel like I would go through a true with drawl.  I can't even go 2 hours without my phone. If I miss Grey's Anatomy I immediately watch it on dvr, ondemand or online.
I wonder if we even have any natural instincts that would help us in the wild.  We are so reliant on technology that it could have overrode the natural aspects of our brain. Would we know how to make a knife? How to kill an animal? skin it? cook it? Would we know how to get clean water? Which plants are dangerous and which plants are edible?  Would our natural instincts change to starting over? finding civilization? trying to find a job? getting a car?
Thinking about it, I realize that I would have no idea where to start if I were alone in the wild.  I know that if I were stuck in a shack, somewhere, that after awhile, I would stop worrying.  I would stop caring about all of the things I care about now.  College, working, money, bills, everything would be gone.

  2. I think that it would be good to test yourself by living in the wilderness for a few days. It would show us if we can actually survive without technology because everyone uses it all the time and most of us are dependent on technology like you said.

  3. I believe that we could survive in the woods if we needed to but i feel that people prefer to live a life with technology. If people dislike technology so much why don't we see more people like Thoreau living in the woods with only the most basic necessities? But before we had all this technology we actually lived in the woods. So i have no doubt that we would be able to live in the woods again but that's just not a life we prefer.

  4. A friend of mine just returned from Basic Training for the National guard last month and when I asked him how it was I was surprised by his answer. He said it was actually pretty nice to not have to worry about anything but his duties at training, to get rid of all of the annoyances of his life like bills, taxes etc. Im sure for a while we'd all be like the kids in feed without their chips, but I too think it would at least be pretty nice to get away.

  5. I can tell you that I have no idea how to skin an animal all that well. It goes back to the fact that its not something that we use on a daily bases. I have never needed thanks to the big corporate slaughterhouses. Is it bad that we relay on each other to help us out in areas that we are not the bast in?
