We are not the dumb generation.

I feel like the older adults are forcing us to be interested in the same things they liked.  We constantly get yelled at for not knowing all of the things that they were forced to memorize in school.  The things that they think should be common sense.  The world is becoming so advanced with technology and such that we need to be more focused on what is coming next rather than what happened 200 years ago.
Also, who is to say what our priorities should and should not be? Our generation is going to do whatever it wants.  If it wants to sit on a computer all day, it will. We care too little to let someone try to convince us to learn something we don't want to know. But, is that the true downfall of our generation? Not caring?
Some say teenagers are on their phones too much, watching too much tv and playing too many video games.  They say we need to read more, study more and take an interest in our environment.  I feel like their plea is unrealistic.  Our parents let us do all of this our whole lives and you expect us to drop it? It's not going to happen. We are a lazy generation, I do agree with that. I know I would rather take a bus 10 blocks than walk it. I would rather sit on facebook than do my homework. But there are still kids who try their hardest in school and actually know the history our parents want us to know, and to tell them their dumb by generalization of their generation is unfair.

  1. Every generation is going to have their own interests and they will disagree with the way the previous and future generations will do things. I however do think that not caring will be our downfall. We have to care about global events in order to keep up with the world and make ourselves and country a powerhouse once again. We need to look to the past for answers and how to change the past to make for an easier future.

  3. I appreciate that Bauerline is trying make us better people by pointing out our shortcomings as a generation, but I agree that his generalization of us isn't fair to some of us that don't necessarily fit his lazy mold. I don't go around writing books about how the older generations are racist and technologically inept because while I know a lot of older people are, I know that there are just as many who aren't.

  4. I like the fact that you said that we do put in the work. Most of my friends are here at ship because they have a job that they work at. It used to be you would have your parents pay the bill. When the previous generations were our age they didn’t care about the environment. They used DDT to cut down on malaria and typhus in World War II but it destroyed the environment and ended up make people sick. Yet look at us we have an environmental club here and I at least try to recycle when I can here, aka find a recycling bin.

  5. I also agree with you that older generations are more focused on knowing different information then our generation. Our generation is more informed about new technology and how to use it. Where as older generations feel like history and politics are more important to know about. it makes it hard to compare intelligence levels because these are completely different topics that these generations think are important.

  6. You make a good point, why should we be critized about the way we are? Also what gives him the right to judge us! What does dumb mean because everyone has different views to define it!
